Barmy Army Golf Society (BAGS) Golf Days
Barmy Army Golf Society (BAGS)
The Barmy Army has been around now for over 25 years and many of its members have retired from playing the best sport in the world and taken up the second best sport… golf (and now just watch cricket).
In 2018, England’s Barmy Army identified this relationship with Golf and the Barmy Army Golf Society was created. It’s inception was marked by a BA members’ challenge match, played at Le Golf National in Paris between the BA South and BA North, with a return fixture the following year at St Mellion in Cornwall. The score currently stands at 1-1.
This year post-Covid we are looking to play a series of golf events the day before some of the England fixtures later this summer. Indeed, we have tickets available still for some of those England games and as a member there is a deal with nearby “Village Hotels” where we know a positive post game catch up can be delivered at a quality/value hotel chain.
We have negotiated members’ guest rate prices and are confident that these events will be popular and will have a real friendly/cricket feel to them.
The Golf played will have a traditional approach to create/maintain the Barmy Army reputation demonstrating respect for the game. We are hoping new members will be attracted by a well-organized golf society, with low-cost membership and significant additional benefits.
The Golf is open to all First Class Barmy Army members and at this early stage there is a real opportunity to be part of a start-up Golf Society whose ambition is extreme but totally deliverable.
For those planning on supporting England in the Ashes later this year, we are planning to hold a number of golf matches down under, so please get involved.
Next Society match is at the Hero Cup, Abu Dhabi followed by UK events in Spring 2023
